Marjorie Taylor Greene’s ‘national divorce’ tweet part of fundraising strategy

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) drew backlash from both Democrats and Republicans after calling for a “national divorce” and suggesting conservatives need their own “safe space.” Greene, who has been talking up the idea of a “national divorce” since 2021, elaborated that she would like to see a “legal agreement to separate our ideological and political disagreements by states while maintaining our legal union.”

Straight Arrow News contributor Jordan Reid argues Greene’s call to “return to a pre-Civil War America” is toxic, divisive, and part of a cynical fundraising strategy that helps her rake in the money.

Controversial opinion of the day: Marjorie Taylor Greene is an insane person who has no freaking business being in any kind of leadership role whatsoever. I mean, can you imagine her on the PTA? Yikes.

Anyway, the Georgia congresswoman decided that President’s Day presented the perfect opportunity to call for secession from the union, tweeting: “We need to separate by red states and blue states and shrink the federal government.”

So she wants a return to pre-Civil War America. Cool. What’s confusing to me about this beyond the obvious — why is she a representative of the United States Congress when she very obviously isn’t a huge fan of the United States — is that Republicans have traditionally been the love-it-or leave-it party. You don’t like the way things are at home…fine, go away…but not anymore.

There is a significant contingent of the Republican Party that genuinely feels that Putin is preferable to Biden. I’m laughing but they believe that we should look to Russia for operational guidance — the Republican Party.

Also confusingly, Greene’s call for a “national divorce” begs the question: How does she see this working out for the red states — of which she is not actually a resident being as Georgia is blue? But…details.

There is a significant contingent of the Republican Party that genuinely feels that Putin is preferable to Biden, that I’m laughing but this is they believe that we should look to Russia for operational guidance, the Republican Party. Also confusingly, greens call for a national divorce begs the question, how does she see this working out for the red states of which she is not actually resident being as Georgia is blue, but details? Check out this map. This shows which states generate the bulk of federal income and which states are dependent on the contributions of more densely populated, wealthier parts of the country. The red states, they don’t do super well here. But presumably she knows this. I mean, she probably does. Right. So what’s your end game here? What is green, who, by the way sits on the Homeland Security Committee doing? Well, she is making money? A lot of it. I think it’s important to understand. I think it’s important to understand how Marjorie Taylor Greene supporters see her because it’s not, it’s not supported something closer to rapture. And the guardrails of the Republican Party have fallen away so completely that these bananas far right statements, the elite pedophile rings, the Jewish space lasers, whatever, they’ve moved into the mainstream, to the point where even old guard salwaar to the party are afraid to push back on green, just look at Kevin McCarthy. Because outrage, as he knows is a profitable game. Green is appealing to the idea that our real enemy isn’t say Russia, it’s Americans who are on the other side of the political landscape. And in doing so, she is raking in the contributions at an exponentially faster clip than her more moderate colleagues who just aren’t as exciting to listen to this cynicism, this fear this hatred, the far right contingent of the Republican Party is profiting from it tremendously. I don’t think a national divorce is on the horizon, although I’ve been wrong before but the toxicity and divisiveness that green is spouting is spreading like wildfire. This is a woman who is willing to sell the soul of our country for donations. And there are more like her out there every day.
