This weekend, Christians will be observing the most sacred holy day of Easter, a day when we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He suffered crucifixion as a sacrifice for our sins so that we might have the promise of eternal life. His resurrection is a victory for light over darkness, for life over death.
As we have been preparing for this joyous celebration, it was disturbing to see Vice President Kamala Harris make a highly publicized visit to an abortion clinic in Minnesota. Many in the news media described this as “historic” [or] “groundbreaking.” I believe it was tragic and shows how extreme progressives have become in their pursuit of abortion at any time for any reason.
Vice President Harris referred to the Planned Parenthood abortion center as a healthcare clinic and said she was there to uplift their work. Abortion is not health care. It is the taking of an innocent human life, a crime against humanity.
Many progressives argue that Black women are underserved when it comes to reproductive healthcare. In fact, Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers have long targeted Black women for abortions and the disproportionate abortion rate for Black women reflects that reality. What Black women and all women need is better access to prenatal care and more freedom to choose the kind of healthcare coverage that best serves their needs.
It was not so long ago that progressives said they wanted to make abortion legal but rare. Now they are pushing for the widest availability of abortion possible, whether that be through surgical or chemical means.
They support legislation that would not limit a single abortion, but would override every conscience protection for doctors and nurses that many progressives have supported in the past.
As a member of the House of Representatives in 1993, Congressman Chuck Schumer sponsored the Religious Freedom Restoration Act and it passed that chamber unanimously. Senator Joe Biden and 96 other senators voted for it and President Bill Clinton signed it into law.
Chuck Schumer is now the Senate Majority Leader. He, President Biden and Vice President Harris are pushing legislation that overrides the Religious Freedom Restoration Act in circumstances involving abortion and elevates death over life. In this Easter season and throughout the year, we should recognize that God is the author of life and cherish the blessings he has bestowed upon us.

Kamala Harris became the first American vice president in history to visit an abortion services provider while in office on Thursday, Mar. 14. That visit was a part of her “Fight for Reproductive Freedoms” tour, which she hopes will mobilize Americans concerned about dwindling access to reproductive healthcare and abortion services.
Straight Arrow News contributor Star Parker disagrees with the notion that abortion services should be included as a component of “healthcare” at all. Parker argues that abortion is murder, a sin, and a crime against humanity and that the vice president’s sin is made even more egregious by the timing of her visit.
