How Democrats should combat Trump’s illegal takeover

In a recent “Dear Colleague” letter, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., laid out a strategic roadmap for Democrats to counter the Trump administration, calling its actions a “coordinated assault” against the interests of the American people. While the Democratic minority has had little power to stop Trump’s efforts to dismantle federal agencies and expand executive authority, many Democratic voters are fuming over the weak response.

Watch the video above as Straight Arrow News contributor Dr. Rashad Richey expresses frustration over what he sees as his party’s political impotence and warns that America is “devolving” into an oligarchy. Dr. Richey argues that Democrats must embrace progressive voices — even those they may disagree with — to reclaim the country.

The following is an excerpt from the above video:

Democrats have played this game, this political game of arguing about things in the forefront while agreeing on things in the background, with their alleged political competitors — being Republicans. They may argue about a social issue in front of the camera, but then they will vote the same way on banks. They will vote the same way on health care. They will vote the same way on higher education.

You see, there should be a contrast, but the reality is, we are living in an era where people, the voters, they are more concerned about the fight, the narrative. How willing are you to push the agenda of those who support you? Democrats have played a game far too long and that game has been to appease, appease and appease.

Yeah, all right, let’s keep it 100 Republicans the ideology the way they have allowed Maga to take over ideological conversations, we have de evolved into an oligarch, et cetera, et cetera. All of that is true and all of that is relevant for discussion, but you cannot have that discussion without the context of what Democrats have done to allow it. Let’s keep it. 100

Democrats have played this game, this political game of arguing about things in the forefront while agreeing on things in the background, with their alleged political competitors being Republicans. They may argue about a social issue in front of the camera, but then they will vote the same way on banks. They will vote the same way on health care. They will vote the same way

on higher education.

You see, there should be a contrast, but the reality is, we are living in an era where people, the voters, they are more concerned about the fight the narrative.

How willing

are you to push the agenda of those who support you? Democrats have played a game far too long, and that game has been to appease, appease and appease and then say, well, what are you going to do vote for the other guy? They got known races over there, the KKK is over there, the Klan is over there, and all of those things are true,

but when you run on a platform. When you provide a resume to the voter, you get elected, and then you do not execute the resume that got you elected. There’s a problem. Here’s another problem. Donald Trump sets his itinerary by sending out social media posts early in the morning,

he sets his itinerary, tells you the ridiculous things he’s going to do, and then Democrats, they spend the next 24 to 48 damn hours talking about what Trump wants you to talk about. Why don’t we talk about what you

have planned?

Why aren’t we talking about the out of the box thinking

in order to right the wrongs that are being done.

Why are we following the message of somebody who’s a known tyrant? Why are we following the ideological messaging of a party, a Republican Party that obviously now is feckless and has very little to no backbone to stand up to the authoritative leadership

of the current president of the United States. Why is it that you have silenced the voices of progressives inside of the party who at least they understand how to fight in today’s political climate, and they’re not simply responding in yesterday’s format. Where are they?

Listen for many, this is not simply about who wins or who loses, but it’s about policy. It is about getting things done. It is about moving in a direction that is congruent to the internal fortitude of who we are as a nation and who we are as individuals. When people don’t believe in you, and I’m talking to those on the left, when people don’t believe in you, it’s difficult to motivate and to animate the kind of support that’s required in order to forge a coalition

to take out the current political oppression that’s happening today.

I encourage you let the young voices

be encouraged to their rightful place in leadership, allow progressive voices that may disagree with you to become part of the narrative that takes this nation back you.
