Top Mexican officials are meeting with U.S. Cabinet members for trade talks before March 4, when tariffs proposed by President Donald Trump are set to take effect on Mexican and Canadian imports. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent described Mexico’s proposal to match U.S. tariffs on China as “very interesting” and suggested that Canada should do the same.

Mexican Deputy Economy Minister Vidal Llerenas mentioned that Mexico is considering aligning its policies with those of the U.S. and Canada towards China, including adopting further measures against cheap goods.

Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly stated that Canada is open to discussions on matching U.S. tariffs on China.
