Number of single women choosing IVF to have babies alone triples

The number of single women using in-vitro fertilization, or IVF, to become mothers has tripled. Approximately 1,400 people underwent IVF treatment in 2012, compared to 4,800 in 2022, according to a report from the United Kingdom’s Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority. The report revealed that overall, one in four IVF treatments resulted in a birth across the UK.

Female same-sex couples using IVF also increased, doubling from 1,650 to 3,300 from 2012 to 2022, indicating a rise in treatments for these groups. The report also indicated that heterosexual couples still account for 90% of parties undergoing IVF treatments.
