Noem says migrants won’t be housed at Guantánamo Bay indefinitely

Republican President Donald Trump plans to expand a detention facility at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, to hold 30,000 detained undocumented immigrants. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated that migrants will have rights and access to attorneys at the island prison.

The U.S. government has faced criticism for the treatment of detainees at Guantánamo Bay, labeled as cruel and degrading.

Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly expressed concern, stating that the decision to expand migrant detention at Guantánamo sounds frightening to many people.
