Newsmax, Fox News back AP in Trump standoff over ‘Gulf of America’

Fox News and Newsmax signed a letter from the White House Correspondents Association supporting the Associated Press after the Trump administration barred it from official events due to its refusal to call the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of America.” The Associated Press is barred from covering key White House functions due to its refusal to modify the term “Gulf of Mexico” to “Gulf of America,” as stated by Julie Pace, the Associated Press’ executive editor, during a recent meeting.

The White House Correspondents Association emphasized that access to White House events should not depend on editorial decisions or opinions of news organizations, as asserted in a confidential letter.

More than 40 media organizations signed a letter from the White House Correspondents’ Association demanding the reinstatement of the Associated Press’ press privileges.
