Tony Doris was fired from the Palm Beach Post after backlash over a cartoon involving Gaza. The image depicted Israeli soldiers assisting a freed hostage while stepping on bodies labeled “over 40 thousand Palestinians killed.”
Doris, who was the Palm Beach Post’s only Jewish editor, viewed the cartoon as antiwar and expressed frustration over his suspension and exclusion from discussions about his termination.
The Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County criticized the cartoon in a full-page ad, calling it “a modern-day blood libel” and stating, “Hate speech turns into hate crimes.”
