Attorney General Merrick Garland accused Republicans of spreading conspiracy theories by suggesting the Justice Department was involved in former President Donald Trump’s conviction by a New York jury.

Trump was found guilty on 34 felony counts in a hush money trial on Thursday, May 30. He is the first president to be tried and convicted of a crime.

Garland is also set to appear before the House Judiciary Committee. Republicans in the committee are threatening to hold him in contempt on Tuesday, June 4.
