The Trump administration is using federal prisons to detain some immigration detainees, as stated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Federal jails in Los Angeles, Miami and Atlanta are reportedly being used for immigration detention, according to three sources familiar with the matter.

More than 8,000 arrests have been made in immigration enforcement actions since Trump’s inauguration, with 461 individuals released for various reasons, according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele offered to house U.S. immigration detainees in his country’s prison system, which Trump indicated he might consider, but noted potential legal issues.
