Farmers, green groups sue USDA over ‘unlawful purge’ of climate data

Earthjustice and the Knight First Amendment Institute filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Agriculture for unlawfully removing climate-related information from its websites. The groups claimed the move harms farmers and violates federal laws.

The lawsuit claims the U.S. Department of Agriculture violated the Freedom of Information Act, the Paperwork Reduction Act and the Administrative Procedure Act by deleting crucial resources.

Organizations like the Natural Resources Defense Council emphasize that denying access to climate data undermines farming and threatens food security as farmers face extreme weather challenges.

A representative from Earthjustice stated that farmers need access to climate data to adapt to changing weather conditions.
