Daniel Penny, acquitted in chokehold death, hired by venture capital firm

Daniel Penny has been hired by the Silicon Valley venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz as a deal partner on the American Dynamism team, focusing on investments. Penny was acquitted of criminally negligent homicide in December 2024 after a chokehold incident involving Jordan Neely on a subway in 2023.

Andreessen Horowitz stated it admired Penny’s calm under fire and noted that he acted with courage in a tough situation.

Vice President JD Vance called Penny’s hiring “incredible news” and previously described him as a “good guy.”
