Court stays execution of Texas man days before he was set to die by lethal injection

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals issued a stay on the execution of a man days before it was scheduled. The court stated the execution is halted “until further order of this court” and offered no further explanation.

Wood has been on Texas death row for nearly four decades and has no DNA evidence linking him to the murders of six women and girls in El Paso in 1987.

Wood claimed that his accusers were lying to assist prosecutors in exchange for leniency in their cases, according to USA TODAY.
