Canadian ministers, Ontario premier to meet with Lutnick as tariff fight continues

Ontario suspended its 25% tariff on electricity exports to the United States a day after it took effect, according to Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator. After a reportedly productive discussion between Ontario Premier Doug Ford and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, Ontario suspended its export tariff.

In a letter to the IESO, Minister of Energy Stephen Lecce stated that Ontario could reinstate the export tariff at any time. Trump threatened to declare a national emergency on electricity, and ClearView analysts reported on his indifference to market-based accountability.
