Biden admin protections for LGBTQ students struck down by Texas court

A federal judge in Texas on Tuesday said the Biden administration improperly attempted to rewrite a federal law barring sex discrimination in schools by applying it to LGBTQ students. District Judge Reed O’Connor blocked President Biden’s proposed changes to Title IX aimed at expanding protections for transgender students, a move celebrated by Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton.

The U.S. Department of Education’s changes included safeguards against sex-based harassment and discrimination, but O’Connor halted these provisions, citing procedural failures in implementation.
