Former federal prosecutor

Michael J. Stern was a state prosecutor, federal prosecutor, and defense attorney, working as a litigator for 30 years in Detroit and Los Angeles. While at the Justice Department, Stern was twice presented with an award from the Attorney General for his work prosecuting violent and organized crime.

Seeking catharsis during Donald Trump’s presidency, Stern began writing for newspapers and has been published in the Guardian, Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune, USA Today, Slate, Hill, HuffPost, NY Daily News, and other news media. In 2021, he was a guest speaker at Princeton University’s daily news journal, and in 2022, he received an award from the National Society of Newspaper Columnists.

Stern has appeared on MSNBC, BBC Worldwide news, and other shows as a commentator and has been quoted as a legal expert in the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Associated Press, and Newsweek.

Democrats need a new plan, and an assault weapons and large capacity magazine ban must be passed if we want to reduce mass shootings.
