TRUMP’S INCOMING NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISER SAYS AMERICA NEEDS TO TAKE A STRONGER STANCE ON CYBERATTACKS.
REPUBLICAN CONGRESSMAN MIKE WALTZ SAYS HE’S READY TO GET HACKERS TO “KNOCK IT OFF”
WALTZ SAID FOLLOWING MULTIPLE THREATS TO AMERICAN INFRASTRUCTURE, ITS TIME FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO CREATE AN OFFENSE.
WALTZ TOLD CBS NEWS CYBER GROUPS CAN INFILTRATE THE PRIVACY OF THE NATION AT ANYTIME AND ITS TIME FOR THEM TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE.
(WALTZ: “start imposing, I think, higher costs and consequences to private actors and nation state actors that continue to steal our data, that continue to spy on us.”)
THE CONGRESSMAN’S COMMENTS COME AFTER THE WHITE HOUSE SAID THE CHINESE HACKING CAMPAIGN KNOWN AS ‘SALT TYPHOON’ BREACHED EIGHT TELECOM COMPANIES EARLIER THIS MONTH…GIVING OFFICIALS IN BEIJING ACCESS TO TEXTS AND NUMBERS OF AMERICANS.
ACCORDING TO THE DEPUTY NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISER… HACKERS DUG INTO COMMUNICATION OF TOP GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS AND POLITICAL FIGURES IN THE U-S–INCLUDING THE PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGNS OF DONALD TRUMP AND KAMALA HARRIS.
MORE THAN A MILLION PEOPLE ARE AFFECTED BUT THE ADVISER SAID CLASSIFIED CORRESPONDENCE ISN’T BELIEVED TO BE IMPACTED.
WALTZ ALSO BROUGHT UP THE LARGEST CYBER ATTACK WHICH IMPACTED AMERICA’S OIL PIPELINE. THE COLONIAL PIPELINE WAS HIT IN 2021 SENDING THE NATION INTO A DESPERATE PURSUIT TO FIND FUEL. THE HOUSTON BASED COMPANY WAS FORCED TO PAY THE HACKERS MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN ORDER TO RESTORE THE SYSTEM.
HE SAID TRUMP IS ONBOARD TO CHANGE THE CURRENT POLICY AND FIGURE OUT HOW TO USE ASSETS THE NATION ALREADY HAS.
(“we’ve got a tremendous private sector with a lot of capability. That relationship between public and private, with our tech industry, they could be doing a lot of good and helping.”)
CHINESE OFFICIALS HAVE DENIED ALLEGATIONS THAT THE COUNTRY IS BEHIND CYBERATTACKS AND THREATS WITHIN THE U-S.
