Trump sues DOJ, requests third party oversight over taken materials

Full story

Former President Trump filed a lawsuit against the Department of Justice on Monday. The filing comes two weeks since the FBI raided his Mar-a-Lago residence. In their motion, Trump’s legal team is asking for a special master to review the records obtained during the search. It would block the government from further reviewing taken materials until a third party is appointed to the investigation.

“ALL documents have been previously declassified,” Trump said. “We are demanding the appointment of a SPECIAL MASTER to oversee the handling of the materials taken in the raid. We are further demanding that the DOJ be forced to turn over a REAL, without ‘plants,’ inventory of my property that was taken and disclose where that property is now located.”

The filing asks for the DOJ to provide a more detailed receipt of property taken during the raid and for the return of any unrelated materials. The DOJ said they will respond to the motion in court.

Last week a federal judge ordered the release of a redacted version of the affidavit used in the FBI raid. The DOJ must give the court its list of redactions by Thursday.
