Full story

Wednesday’s top stories include candidates backed by former President Trump winning several races in the latest round of primary elections and a judge ruling three LIV golfers will not compete in PGA Tour’s postseason. As for what’s ahead, Former President Trump will testify in a New York investigation into his business practices.

Trump-backed candidates’ primary victories – Four states held primaries Tuesday night. Trump-backed candidates largely won in their respective races. Trump’s pick for Wisconsin Governor, Tim Michels, beat Mike Pence’s endorsed candidate.

“That’s what this race has always been about and that’s what the general election race is going to be about as well. Standing up for the hard working people of Wisconsin,” Michels said in a victory speech Tuesday night. “They’ve been left behind by the Democratic Party that just wants to focus on the social issues. From my first day in office to my very last day as governor, jobs and the economy will arguably be my number one priority.”

In Connecticut, Trump-endorsed Leora Levy held victory over a more moderate rival in a liberal-leaning state that has historically drawn moderate GOP candidates. Tuesday’s results showed Trump’s grip on the Republican Party is strengthening as most of the 10 Republican members of Congress who voted to impeach him have either retired or lost.

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) will be on the Wyoming ballot next week and is widely expected to lose.

LIV players ruled out of PGA Tour – A judge ruled three golfers who left the PGA to compete for Saudi-backed LIV Golf will not compete in the PGA Tour’s postseason. Taylor Gooch, Matt Jones and Hudson Swafford had sought a temporary restraining order from their PGA suspensions. The three claimed missing the playoffs would cause irreparable harm.

U.S. District Judge Beth Labson Freeman made her decision in San Jose after attorneys for the sides each spoke for about an hour. Freeman said she didn’t think the golfers faced irreparable harm because of the big money they were guaranteed by joining LIV.

Trump to testify in NY probe – Former President Trump indicated on social media he would testify in a New York investigation into his family’s business practices. Trump posted about the case on Truth Social Tuesday night.

“Seeing racist N.Y.S. Attorney General tomorrow, for a continuation of the greatest Witch Hunt in U.S. history,” Trump said. “My great company, and myself, are being attacked from all sides.”

Trump’s testimony will come days after the FBI raided Trump’s Mar-A-Lago residence as part of a separate investigation.

The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report.
