Trump lawyer Jenna Ellis censured for misrepresenting 2020 election claims

Another former campaign lawyer of former President Donald Trump has been reprimanded for supporting his claim the 2020 election was stolen. Jenna Ellis is still fully licensed but she has been censured after Colorado’s disciplinary Judge Bryon Large said the attorney knowingly misrepresented evidence at least 10 times.

Jenna Ellis claimed to have known of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election. Ellis claimed the Trump team found 500,000 illegal votes cast in Arizona. She said there was evidence of a coordinated effort by states to transfer Trump votes to Biden votes, that ballots were being manipulated and a handful of other statements were represented as fact when there was no supporting evidence Ellis could provide. Ellis admitted to misrepresenting the results of the 2020 election, according to the judge’s six-page opinion.

After the judge’s opinion published, Ellis took to Twitter to clear up media reports suggesting she admitted to lying about the 2020 election. She said she never lied because lying requires intentionally making a false statement.

“Bar complaints have been filed all over the country by people Trump lawyers have never met, had no client relationship with, and who are totally partisan against Trump,” Ellis tweeted. “This is and always was political lawfare to intimidate lawyers from representing Trump or Republican candidates, especially in election challenges and try to destroy our livelihood and reputation. Organizations filing complaints have been open about this motivation.”

Several other Trump attorneys are facing similar repercussions. Rudy Giuliani had his license temporarily suspended and is awaiting a final ruling from a bar discipline proceeding in Washington, D.C. John Eastman is preparing for disciplinary proceedings in California. Jeffrey Clark has temporarily delayed bar discipline proceedings against him in Washington while attempting to bring the fight into federal court.
