Agreeing with Attorney General Merrick Garland, former President Donald Trump said on Truth Social he wants all documents, including the warrant, released regarding the FBI raid on his Florida residence this week. Garland called for the release of the search warrant on Thursday. He said relating documents, as well as a list of seized items should also be released.
Some news outlets report the records the president allegedly had stored concern nuclear weapons and national defense information. Trump said his legal team has been cooperating fully with the DOJ on its search for classified records. Justice Department officials reportedly met with Trump at the Mar-a-Lago residence in June regarding the same investigation into classified documents.
Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies put out a warning this week about the potential for attacks on the FBI after news of the raid has received blowback from the public. Following the security awareness announcement, a man was shot and killed after storming a Cincinnati FBI office.
“Any threats made against law enforcement, including the men and women of the FBI, as with any law enforcement agency, are deplorable and dangerous,” Christopher Wray, FBI Director, said Wednesday. “Violence against law enforcement is not the answer, no matter what anybody’s upset about or who they’re upset with.”
The judge who approved of the warrant has already ordered federal prosecutors to confer with Trump’s attorneys and determine whether they oppose the motion to unseal the documents, setting a deadline of 3 p.m. Friday for the Trump team’s response. Trump has signaled for transparency.
It is unknown when the federal judge will rule on the release of records. However, Trump’s legal team also has the option to release the search warrant before the FBI does. The legal team recently hinted at doing that. Trump’s attorneys are also contemplating the release of surveillance footage from within the residence at the time of the raid along with an itemized list of documents taken during the raid.
