According to the Times, the post doesn’t plan to replace its public slogan “Democracy Dies in Darkness”, which the company adopted in 2017 after Trump entered the White House the first time.

Two sources told the Times, the new internal slogan is meant to be a rallying point for employees.

This comes as the company faces several issues like high-profile departures by top editors, writers and reporters after Jeff Bezos, the Post’s owner, decided against running a staff editorial endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of the presidential election.

The paper lost 200,000 subscribers after that.

Bezos and Trump have had a contentious relationship over the years, because of Bezos’ ownership of the Post and how the paper writes about Trump.

While Bezos has criticized Trump in the past, he now says he’s optimistic about his second term.

The recent staff exodus also led to hundreds of post employees writing a letter to Bezos this week.

In the letter obtained by CNN, staff questioned the paper’s direction and future given an employee exodus and subscription losses, urging Bezos to intervene.

The Post also laid off around 100 employees this month from its business division, which the company said was part of a plan to “adjust changing business conditions.”

Bezos has not commented on the new internal mission statement or the recent letter written by staff.
