Super Bowl LIX will have a very familiar look. The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will play a rematch of the 2023 big game.

Full story

The 2025 Super Bowl has a very familiar look. The Philadelphia Eagles will take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Feb. 9 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. It’s a matchup of the top two seeds and a rematch of the Super Bowl played in February of 2023.

More on the Eagles’ win

The Eagles started fast and left absolutely no doubt against the upstart Washington Commanders. The team got three touchdowns from NFL rushing champ Saquon Barkley, including one on their very first offensive play. The Commanders helped them out by committing the ultimate playoff sin with four turnovers, all of which directly led to points for the Eagles. The final score was 55-23.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni praised his quarterback Jalen Hurts, who also scored three times.

“We don’t care how we win. We don’t care. If we rush for 300 and pass for one and we win, great. If we rush for one and pass for 300, great, who cares? We’ve just continued to win; he’s just continued to win. I don’t understand the criticism. Whatever,” Siriani said.

The Eagles are peaking at the perfect time. They have won 14 of their last 15 games. In the other locker room, the Commanders head coach Dan Quinn lamented the turnovers, knowing the outcome could have been different.

“The last seven weeks, really, we’ve lived in complimentary football; that would be turnover margin. We didn’t create any opportunities for us and lost four and 28 points off of those turnovers; that was big.” Quinn said.

More on the Chiefs’ win

The Kansas City Chiefs had a bit of a tougher time on Sunday, Jan. 26. It was their seventh straight AFC Championship game, and it stands to reason they simply know how to win close games. Their matchup with the Buffalo Bills went back and forth at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

Patrick Mahomes threw for a touchdown and ran for two more, but the Bills would not let their opponents run with it. It took a late field goal and a dramatic fourth down stop with under two minutes to go to get the 32-29 win.

The Chiefs have knocked out the Bills four times in the last five years. It’s the first time in NFL history a team has done that to the same opponent, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes was thankful.

“It’s just so hard to get to a Super Bowl, and I don’t take it for granted. To be able to do it again at Arrowhead was special. I mean, last year was awesome. You get there and you win it, but you’re in a different stadium,” Mahomes said. “Being able to win it at Arrowhead, and then you get that trophy on that stage, and you look around, and there’s not a seat empty.”

The Chiefs will play in their fifth Super Bowl in the last six seasons, with the goal of being the first team to win three straight as their dynasty grows. The Chiefs are favored by just two points in the 2025 Super Bowl. Back in 2023, the Chiefs beat Philadelphia 38-35 on a field goal in the final seconds.
