Gwen’s picks for Friday, October 29 include:

  • President Joe Biden met with Pope Francis at the Vatican ahead of the G20 Summit in Rome. “In his audience with Pope Francis today, President Biden thanked His Holiness for his advocacy for the world’s poor and those suffering from hunger, conflict, and persecution,” the White House said in a statement.
  • Amazon told investors the company is in danger of not making a profit in the final quarter of the year, despite a projected $140 billion in projected holiday sales. “In the fourth quarter, we expect to incur several billion dollars of additional costs in our Consumer business as we manage through labor supply shortages, increased wage costs, global supply chain issues, and increased freight and shipping costs.” said Amazon CEO Andy Jassy.
  • Illinois Congressman Adam Kinzinger will not seek re-election in 2022. Kinzinger was one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Donald Trump following the Capitol riots.
  • Today is National Cat Day. Is there a day for everything on social media? Yes. Yes, there is.
