Three people are dead after yet another school shooting. The latest shooting happened at Central Visual and Performing Arts High School in St. Louis.

The shooting happened just after 9 a.m. Monday morning. Video from local media showed students trying to get to safety by jumping fences and climbing walls.

St. Louis Police Commissioner Michael Sack said the shooter killed an adult female and a teenage female. Sack did not say if the adult female was a teacher. Six other people were injured in the shooting. According to Sack, the shooter was killed by police after an exchange of gunfire.

Police said the shooter was a man, believed to be about 20 years old, and armed with a long gun. A school security guard reportedly saw the man trying to get into the building and alerted police.

The school went into lockdown, but the shooter was somehow still able to get inside. When officers responded, Sack said they immediately ran toward the sound of gunfire.

“Which is the expectation,” Sack said. “Not only of the department but the community as well, to protect our kids and our teachers in our schools that should be considered safe.”

Sack said officers encountered the shooter on the school’s third floor.  Names of the victims and a description of their injuries were not immediately released.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
