The Malaysian government agreed in principle to resume the search for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 more than a decade after it disappeared in 2014. Officials approved a general plan for the investigation, but the details need to be hammered out.
In what’s become one of the world’s greatest aviation mysteries, flight MH370 from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing vanished en route on March 8, 2014, with 227 passengers and 12 crew members on board.
Malaysia’s transportation minister said the new “no find, no fee” proposal came from the same U.S. company that last searched for the missing Boeing 777, which ended in 2018. Exploration firm Ocean Infinity proposed to search a new area in the southern Indian Ocean.
Officials said the agreement is set to be finalized in early 2025. Ocean Infinity said the best time to search the area would be January through April. If the firm does find substantive wreckage, it’ll receive $70 million.
