FLORIDA REPRESENTATIVE MATT GAETZ HAS BEEN SUBPOENAED FOR A DEPOSITION IN A CIVIL DEFAMATION LAWSUIT THAT CLAIMS HE WAS SEXUALLY INVOLVED WITH A MINOR.
THE LAWSUIT, INITIATED BY CHRIS DORWORTH, A CLOSE ASSOCIATE OF GAETZ, TARGETS THE WOMAN WHO CLAIMS SHE WAS INVOLVED WITH GAETZ WHEN SHE WAS 17.
ACCORDING TO ABC NEWS, ATTORNEYS REPRESENTING THE WOMAN, WHO’S NOW IN HER 20S — ISSUED THE SUBPOENA TO GAETZ.
THE SUIT STEMS FROM A SERIES OF ACCUSATIONS AGAINST GAETZ, THAT INCLUDED CLAIMS OF SEX TRAFFICKING, WHICH WERE INVESTIGATED BY THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT. THE DOJ SAID IN 2023 IT WOULD NOT PURSUE CHARGES AGAINST THE LAWMAKER.
BUT GAETZ’S TROUBLES ARE FAR FROM OVER. HE’S ALSO FACING A CONGRESSIONAL ETHICS INVESTIGATION TIED TO THESE ALLEGATIONS.
DESPITE THE LEGAL SCRUTINY, GAETZ CONTINUES HIS POLITICAL ACTIVITIES. HE RECENTLY ENDORSED BRANDON HERRERA AGAINST INCUMBENT REP. TONY GONZALES IN A TEXAS REPUBLICAN PRIMARY, DESPITE PLEAS FROM GOP LEADERSHIP NOT TO.
GAETZ EVEN CAMPAIGNED IN TEXAS WITH HERRERA, CAUSING A STIR AS PARTY LEADERS ARE TRYING TO KEEP EVERYONE UNIFIED DURING ELECTION SEASON.
THE PRIMARY RUNOFF IS SCHEDULED FOR MAY, HIGHLIGHTING A PIVOTAL MOMENT FOR THE GOP’S FUTURE DIRECTION.
