Rep. Green raises alarm over record 10 million migrant encounters under Biden

Full story

Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security Rep. Mark Green said he expects federal border authorities to have encountered 10 million migrants by the end of the summer under the Biden administration. The number of migrants has never been seen in two-term presidential administrations — let alone one.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data, federal agents encountered more than 248,000 migrants nationwide in April, bringing the fiscal year total to nearly 2 million. Since President Joe Biden took office, more than 9.5 million migrants have been encountered at the nation’s borders.

“It is unbelievable that we are on track to hit 10 million encounters nationwide before this fiscal year is even over, and that doesn’t count the roughly 2 million or more known ‘got-aways’ on this administration’s watch,” Green wrote in a statement to The Washington Examiner.

Earlier this year, Green introduced articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for his handling of the border crisis. The House ultimately impeached Mayorkas, but the Senate did not hold a trial.

In the decade leading up to Biden taking office, monthly migrant apprehensions ranged from just over 11,000 migrants to 133,000. According to CBP data, in the 43 months since Biden was sworn in, the average number of encounters of undocumented migrants each month is 198,700.
