[LAUREN TAYLOR]
WE ARE JUST A FEW MONTHS FROM THE ELECTION AND LAST WEEK’S PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE IS RAISING DOUBTS AMONG VOTERS — INCLUDING DEMOCRATS — ABOUT PRESIDENT BIDEN’S ABILITY TO SERVE AS COMMANDER AND CHIEF.
ACCORDING TO A NEW CBS POLL, NEARLY THREE-QUARTERS OF ALL VOTERS AND FOUR-IN-TEN DEMOCRATS NOW BELIEVE BIDEN DOES NOT HAVE THE MENTAL AND COGNITIVE HEALTH TO SERVE. HALF OF ALL VOTERS SAY THE SAME OF FORMER PRESIDENT TRUMP.
WHEN ASKED IF BIDEN HAD THE MENTAL AND COGNITIVE ABILITY TO SERVE– 72 PERCENT OF REGISTERED VOTERS SAID HE DID NOT WHILE 41 PERCENT OF DEMOCRATS SAID THE SAME.
THE DEBATE ALSO IMPACTED VOTERS’ THOUGHTS ON WHETHER BIDEN SHOULD BE RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT.
AGAIN, 72 PERCENT OF VOTERS — INCLUDING 46 PERCENT OF DEMOCRATS — SAID HE SHOULD NOT. A JUMP OF ABOUT 10 POINTS FROM THE LAST TIME THE QUESTION WAS POLLED.
VOTERS WERE MOST LIKELY TO CITE THE PRESIDENT’S AGE AND DECISIONS HE MIGHT MAKE IN OFFICE AS REASONS HE SHOULDN’T RUN.
THOUGH TRUMP CONTINUES TO SEE WIDE SUPPORT AMONG REPUBLICANS AND THE MAJORITY OF RESPONDENTS BELIEVE HE WON DEBATE; VOTERS WERE MORE LIKELY TO SAY BIDEN TOLD THE TRUTH.
BIDEN AND TRUMP ARE SET TO FACE OFF IN A DEBATE ONCE AGAIN ON SEPTEMBER 10TH.
