“Informed by three decades on the House Intelligence Committee, Speaker Pelosi is acutely aware of how foreign adversaries meddle in American politics to sow division and impact our elections, and she wants to see further investigation ahead of the 2024 election,” a Pelosi spokesperson told Straight Arrow News.

Pelosi initially made this comment on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“But for them to call for a ceasefire is Mr. Putin’s message,” Pelosi said. “Mr. Putin’s message. Make no mistake, this is directly connected to what he would like to see. Same thing with Ukraine, it’s about Putin’s message. I think some of these protesters are spontaneous and organic and sincere. Some I think are connected to Russia and I say that having looked at this for a long time.”

Pelosi then said she does not believe the protesters are Russian plants but she does think the FBI should investigate their financing.

“As Speaker Pelosi said on CNN, we have to focus on stopping the suffering in Gaza, and she will continue demanding that all hostages be freed now,” the spokesperson said. “Speaker Pelosi has always supported and defended the right of all Americans to make their views known through peaceful protest.”

Code Pink protesters, led by founder Medea Benjamin, have been in the Capitol confronting members of Congress for weeks. The protesters are demanding that lawmakers call for a ceasefire in Gaza, and they continued their protests Monday outside Pelosi’s D.C. office.

“Where did Nancy Pelosi get her money?” Benjamin said in a video posted on X. “I know she gets a lot of money from pro-Israel groups. Maybe that should be investigated.”

“Pelosi’s claim that some of the Americans protesting for a Gaza ceasefire are working with Vladimir Putin sounds delusional and her call for the FBI to investigate those protesters without any evidence is downright authoritarian,” Nihad Awad, the executive director of the Council of American-Islamic Relations said of Pelosi’s comment. “Instead of baselessly smearing those Americans as Russian collaborators, former House Speaker Pelosi and other political leaders should respect the will of the American people by calling for an end to the Netanyahu government’s genocidal war on the people of Gaza.”

Peace group Code Pink protested outside Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi’s Washington DC office Monday, a day after Pelosi called for an FBI investigation into the financing of certain pro-Palestinian protestors. On CNN’s State of The Union Sunday, the former House Speaker said the protestors are spreading Russian President Vladimmir Putin’s message.

Pelosi’s team is now clarifying what she meant after receiving some criticism.

A Pelosi spokesperson told Straight Arrow News: “Informed by three decades on the House Intelligence Committee, Speaker Pelosi is acutely aware of how foreign adversaries meddle in American politics to sow division and impact our elections, and she wants to see further investigation ahead of the 2024 election.”

Here are the former House Speaker’s initial comments.

[Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, D-CA]

We have to think about what we’re doing. And what we have to do is try to stop the suffering in Gaza. This is women and children, people who don’t have a place to go. So let’s address that. But for them to call for a ceasefire is Mr. Putin’s message. Mr. Putin’s message, make no mistake this is directly connected to what he would like to see. Same thing with Ukraine, it’s about Putin’s message. I think some of these protestors are spontaneous and organic and sincere. Some I think are connected to Russia and I say that having looked at this for a long time.”

Code Pink did just that.
