The NFL wrapped up the 2024 season in red carpet style Thursday night, Feb. 6, by handing out its biggest individual awards. The NFL Honors awards show at the historic Saenger Theater in New Orleans recognized close to 20 of the top performers this past season.

The NFL’s Most Valuable Player is Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen, who led the Bills to the playoffs for the seventh straight season. He threw for 28 touchdowns, ran for 12 more and had just six interceptions. Allen narrowly beat out last year’s winner, Lamar Jackson, to win his first MVP award. Allen also won the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award Thursday night.

Saquon Barkley was a lock for Offensive Player of the Year. The running back who will be front and center for the Eagles in the 2025 Super Bowl rushed for 2,005 yards in the regular season. He’s only the ninth player in history to go over 2,000. He also scored 13 touchdowns.

The Defensive Player of the Year is cornerback Patrick Surtain II of the Denver Broncos. He is just the second defensive back to win the award since 2010. Surtain II had four interceptions, 11 passes defended and didn’t allow more than 50 yards receiving in any game this year.

Some other high-profile awards Thursday night include quarterback Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders as Offensive Rookie of the Year. The Defensive Rookie of the Year is Los Angeles Rams pass rusher Jared Verse. Coach of the Year is the Minnesota Vikings Kevin O’Connell, and the Comeback Player of the Year is quarterback Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Arik Armstead of the Jacksonville Jaguars wins what has perhaps grown into the most prestigious award: the Walter Payton Man of the Year. This award honors a player’s community involvement and charitable work.
