President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are spending the last day before the midterm elections campaigning; Twitter has reportedly asked for some of the employees they laid off to return to work; and a Texas gambler is set to receive the largest payout on a single legal sports bet in U.S. history. These stories highlight the Daily Rundown for Monday, Nov. 7, 2022.

Biden, Trump midterm campaigning – Both former President Biden and former President Trump have campaign events set for Monday night, ahead of Tuesday’s midterm elections. The events were meant to boost Election Day turnout with more than 41 million ballots already cast.

Biden will hold a rally in Maryland, where Democrats have one of their best opportunities to reclaim a Republican-held governor’s seat. He spent Sunday focusing on another gubernatorial race, stumping for Gov. Kathy Hochul, D-N.Y.

Meanwhille, Trump will be campaigning for GOP Senate candidate J.D. Vance in Ohio Monday. The Ohio rally follows a campaign event for Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., and Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., Sunday.

Twitter calls back laid-off workers – According to a report from Bloomberg, Twitter has reached out to dozens of the thousands of employees the company laid off last week, asking them to return. According to two people familiar with the moves, some of those who are being asked to return were laid off by mistake. Others were let go before management realized that their work and experience may be necessary to build the new features new owner Elon Musk envisions.

The Bloomberg report comes as Musk tweeted Sunday that Twitter will permanently suspend any account on the social media platform that impersonates another. Some celebrities changed their Twitter display names — not their account names — and tweeted as “Elon Musk” in reaction to the billionaire’s decision to offer verified accounts to all comers for $8 month. Comedian Kathy Griffin had her account suspended Sunday after she switched her screen name to Musk.

“Previously, we issued a warning before suspension, but now that we are rolling out widespread verification, there will be no warning,” Musk said on Twitter. “This will be clearly identified as a condition for signing up to Twitter Blue.”

Texas gambler wins $75 million sports bet – A prolific Texas gambler with a knack for attention-getting bets won nearly $75 million after the Houston Astros won the World Series over the weekend. Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale of Houston wagered a total of $10 million with numerous sports books on an Astros victory.

While McIngvale became $75 million richer over the weekend, someone could become $1.9 billion richer after Monday night’s Powerball drawing. The jackpot is now the largest in U.S. lottery history. The cash option is worth $929.1 million.
