Tens of thousands gathered for the “March for Israel” at the National Mall in a show of solidarity with Israel as it wages war in Gaza in response to the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas. On Tuesday, Nov. 14, Israeli President Isaac Herzog addressed the gathered crowd during the march through a live video feed.

“Together we pray for a safe return of our hostages,” Herzog said. “Together, we pray for the full recovery of the wounded. And together we pray for our beloved sons and daughters in the IDF. May God bless them and keep them.”

Organizers intend for the event to serve, in part, as a response to critics of Israel following the Hamas attack that resulted in approximately 1,200 casualties.

The Department of Homeland Security designated Tuesday’s rally a “Level One” security event amid a surge in U.S. antisemitic incidents following the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. This level, typically reserved for high-profile events like the Super Bowl, underscores the heightened security measures in place.
According to the U.S. Capitol Police, there are no credible threats or identified counter-demonstrations at this time.
Jewish community leaders and celebrities spoke at the event. Bipartisan support from both chambers of Congress came to show their support as well.
“And today all of you are here showing we will not hide in the face of adversity,” Sen. Chuck Schumer said.

Recently, fighting between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants outside of Gaza’s largest hospital has prompted thousands of people to flee from the medical facility. Health officials said Monday that hundreds of patients and others displaced by the war remained inside. Patients inside the hospital include dozens of babies at risk of dying because of a lack of electricity.
U.S. President Joe Biden said Shifa hospital “must be protected” and called for “less intrusive action” by Israeli forces.
