The apartment building made national headlines after a video showed armed men forcing their way into some of its units. The owners of the complex claimed that members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua took over the apartments, making managing them impossible.

However, the city said the company abandoned the buildings. The city says it created conditions that allowed them to become hotbeds of criminal activity. Critics of the apartment complex’s management company, CBZ Management, point to documented complaints. They allege a pattern of negligence dating back to at least 2020. They say this occurred before any alleged members of TdA were reported at the complex.
Last month, federal authorities arrested two suspects in an armed kidnapping at the apartment complex. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said they were Tren de Aragua members.
And on Monday, Jan. 13, the Aurora Police Department announced charges for nine people in connection to a separate armed kidnapping there last month.
The city of Aurora is working with county officials and community partners to find housing for people in the 60 apartments set to close.
Trump takes office next Monday, Jan. 20, and pledged on the campaign trail to start his nationwide mass deportation of migrant criminals in Aurora.
