Shannon Longworth: Health insurance costs are getting way more transparent.
Starting today, insurance companies and self-insured employers have to share nearly every price they’ve decided on with healthcare providers.
The prices must be posted online — item by item.
This *does* exclude prescription drug prices.
Unless they’re administered on the spot in hospitals or doctors’ offices.
Companies and employers that don’t comply may be subject to fines of 100 dollars a day for each violation and for each person affected by the violation, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
