House Republican files articles of impeachment against Kamala Harris

Rep. Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., has filed articles of impeachment against Vice President Kamala Harris, citing two main grievances. The first article accuses Harris of failing to uphold U.S. immigration law, a charge rooted in her role overseeing efforts to address the border crisis. From the outset of the Biden administration, President Joe Biden assigned Harris to tackle the “root causes” of immigration, yet subsequent months saw a surge in migrant crossings, intensifying Republican criticism.

The second article of impeachment centers on allegations that Harris breached public trust by purportedly concealing concerns about President Biden’s physical and cognitive well-being. This accusation reflects growing Republican sentiment that Harris was aware of Biden’s alleged cognitive decline prior to the spotlight it gained during the presidential debates.

These developments come amid escalating demands from Republican quarters for Harris and the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Biden from office. Previously, Republicans have successfully impeached Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over border management. However, the Senate voted not to have a trial and take matters further.

Separately, the House Rules Committee has advanced a resolution introduced by Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., during an emergency meeting on Tuesday, July 23. The resolution condemned Harris for what critics describe as lax immigration enforcement under the administration.

The White House has vehemently refuted these allegations, placing blame on Republicans for stalling congressional action on immigration reform.
