Reuters reported that Harris has narrowed her search down to two candidates.
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro took office in 2023 after winning a hard fought election. Shapiro is the former state attorney general. If Harris chooses Shapiro, it would make the ticket even more historic. While Harris would be running to become the nation’s first woman president, Shapiro would be the first Jewish vice president.
Pennsylvania and its 19 electoral votes could once again be a deciding factor this November. The winner of the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections took Pennsylvania.
Harris is also considering Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who took office in 2019. Walz is a former congressman who represented a Republican leaning district, so he has a proven ability to win over voters from across the aisle. Minnesota is not a battleground state like Pennsylvania, but it borders Michigan and Wisconsin, two states that, like Pennsylvania, helped decide the elections in 2016 and 2020.
