Google is expanding a program meant to counter online misinformation.
It’s called “prebunking.”
It involves teaching people how to spot false claims online — before they encounter them.
Google plans to release a series of short videos highlighting the techniques common to many misleading claims.
These techniques include fear-mongering — scapegoating — false comparisons — exaggeration and missing context.
The videos will appear as advertisements on platforms like Facebook, YouTube or TikTok in Germany after promising results were reported in Eastern Europe.
A similar campaign in India is also in the works.
