FDA recalls eye ointment over potential bacterial contamination

The Food and Drug Administration has issued a recall on another over-the-counter eye product that could be contaminated with bacteria. Americans are being told to stop using Delsam Pharma’s Artificial Eye Ointment.

The recalled product has the same manufacturer as EzriCare and Delsam Pharma artificial tear products that were also recalled earlier this year. The FDA has cited the company for multiple violations, and banned imports of its products into the United States.

The recalls come as the U.S. is facing a nationwide health alert from the CDC over an outbreak of a rare, and extensively drug-resistant bacteria that is blinding some patients.

According to the CDC, there have been 58 known cases in the U.S., most linked back to the recalled eye products. Some of those products are still for sale on Amazon and listed as one of the top 50 best-selling dry eye relief products.
