Full story

Two federal law enforcement agents with ties to highly charged political investigations are retiring. The FBI and U.S. Secret Service agents are leaving as separate investigations into Hunter Biden’s laptop and the Jan. 6 insurrection remain ongoing.

Assistant Special Agent in Charge Tim Thibault retired over the weekend from the FBI. Thibault was of retirement age, but he’s also at the center of the Hunter Biden laptop controversy.

U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, called Thibault out by name last month. Grassley said based on whistleblower accounts, he believed Thibault helped lead the effort in 2020 to torpedo negative reporting about Hunter Biden, his laptop, and connections to then-candidate Joe Biden.

In response to Thibault’s retirement, Sen. Grassley said, “Political bias should have no place at the FBI…the effort to revive the FBI’s credibility can’t stop with his exit.”

Meanwhile, Senior Secret Service Agent Tony Ornato is also retiring.

Ornato came into the spotlight after Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony before the Jan. 6 committee.

Hutchinson said Ornato described an incident to her from inside the Presidential SUV in which the former president is said to have been extremely upset that his detail wouldn’t take him to the Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021.

Ornato worked for the U.S. Secret Service for more than 25 years, and said he’s been planning to retire from the agency for more than a year.
