Donors are raising the defense fund of Luigi Mangione, the suspect accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Originally set at $200,000, the campaign surpassed its goal by more than $100,000, with total donations now exceeding $330,000.

The December 4th Legal Committee, a volunteer-based group said it supports Mangione’s constitutional right to a fair trial. The members launched the “GiveSendGo” fundraiser. On Monday, Feb. 10, the group penned a letter to supporters, announcing Mangione’s legal team is accepting donations on his behalf.

Supporters voice their opinions

The fundraiser has gained traction, with more than 11,000 people contributing an average of around $30 each. Supporters have left a range of comments on the page, with some encouraging words like “America loves you, Luigi! Keep holding your head high.” Others expressed frustration over the charges against him, including murder and terrorism.

As the campaign continues, organizers have raised the fundraising goal to $500,000.

Luigi Mangione faces multiple charges

Mangione is facing murder and terrorism charges in connection to the death of Thompson, who was shot outside a Manhattan hotel on Dec. 4. State and federal authorities launched a nationwide manhunt, culminating in Mangione’s arrest at a Pennsylvania McDonald’s.

Mangione has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is currently being held in a Brooklyn jail. He is expected to return to court later this month for further proceedings.
