DOJ appeals special master, head of UN in Pakistan, Biden in Ohio for Intel groundbreaking


On Friday, Sept. 9, 2022, the Justice Department has appealed the court decision to assign a special master to their investigation into documents seized at Mar-a-Lago, the head of the United Nations is in Pakistan requesting world leaders to provide assistance to the flood-ravaged region, and President Joe Biden will be in Ohio as the ground is broken for a new Intel facility.

Justice Department appeals appointment of special master – The Department of Justice has appealed a judge’s ruling to pause the agency’s investigation into documents seized at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence while a special master is appointed. In addition to its appeal of a special master, the DOJ asked to continue its review of documents being done for the FBI’s criminal probe. The department said they will still submit a joint filing with Trump’s legal team to the court Friday with a list of names suitable to be appointed as special master.

Head of United Nations requests aid for Pakistan – The head of the United Nations arrived in Pakistan on Friday to tour the damage left behind by a devastating summer of flooding. Antonio Guterres called on world leaders to help the nation with their recovery efforts. The visit comes less than two weeks after Guterres requested $160 million in emergency funding.

President Biden visits Intel facility unveiling – President Biden will be in Ohio on Friday for the groundbreaking of a new Intel computer chip facility. Intel had delayed the groundbreaking until after Congress passed the CHIPS and Science Act last month. Biden’s visit comes as a key Senate race between Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan, D, and Republican candidate J.D. Vance has heated up ahead of November’s midterms.
