The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is adopting a more aggressive approach to hold the Trump administration and Republicans accountable as part of its broader effort to counter right-wing political narratives and regain voter trust.
DNC announces new ‘War Room’
On Monday, the DNC announced the creation of a new “War Room” designed to serve as a hub for information, research and media innovation and to push back against what Democrats say are false narratives from the right. The party plans to use counter-programming and a variety of strategic tools to reach a wider audience.
DNC Chair Ken Martin emphasized the urgency of the new tactic.
“While Donald Trump continues to push an agenda that raises costs, destroys jobs, and ruins lives, he also continues to lie, spin, and cheat his way out of accountability — and the DNC is doubling down on its efforts to provide the American people with real facts and accurate information about the impact of his policies.”

The announcement follows this past Saturday’s “Hands Off” protests, which saw more than 150 groups across the country unite in opposition to a wide range of controversial Trump administration actions since the president’s return to the White House.
Rep. Maxwell Frost, D-Fla., spoke at one of the protests.
“We need to use everything in our toolbox,” Frost said. “We can’t afford to brush aside any part of our movement. We need mutual aid. We need protest. We need direct action. We need a legislative strategy.”
Tim Hogan, a Democratic strategist, will lead the “walls down” approach in a fresh effort to drive change. This strategy is one of several under the DNC’s broader goals.
The new tactics
- Grassroots Engagement: The DNC will collaborate with state parties to host local events where communities can voice their concerns, highlight the effects of current policies, and hold leaders accountable.
- Influencer Ecosystem: The DNC plans to leverage social media influencers to engage with a larger audience, especially as more Americans rely on their phones for news.
- Conservative and Mixed Media: The War Room will expand the DNC’s reach by engaging diverse spokespeople in conservative and mixed political spaces.
- Daily Rapid Response: The DNC will serve as the messaging hub for the Democratic network, providing daily briefings, talking points, and polling insights to maintain consistent communication.
- Combating Misinformation: The DNC will utilize a cabinet of experts and community voices while enhancing media monitoring to counter false narratives in real time.
- Putting Republicans on Defense: The DNC’s research team will maintain a file on prominent political figures to highlight the effects of current policies and spark public debate through traditional and digital media.
Sen. Cory Booker calls for Democratic Party to move forward
The new initiative follows Sen. Cory Booker’s record-breaking 25-hour speech on the Senate floor, where he challenged Trump’s policies and Republican-backed bills and urged the Democratic Party to step up its efforts to lead change.
“There’s a lot of people out there asking Democrats to do more and to take risks and do things differently. This seemed like the right thing to do. And from what my staff is telling me, a lot of people watched. And so we’ll see what it is. I just think a lot of us have to do a lot more, including myself,” Booker told the Associated Press after finishing his speech on April 1.
Since former Vice President Kamala Harris’ defeat in the 2024 presidential election, the DNC has been working to rebuild trust with voters while navigating the political dominance of Republicans.
Poll shows declining faith among Democratic voters
According to the latest NBC News national poll from March, the Democratic Party has reached an all-time low among registered voters, with only 27% maintaining a positive view of the party. The same poll revealed that 65% of respondents want Democratic lawmakers to stand firm and push back harder against controversial actions and policies undertaken by the Trump administration.
