Part of the backlash in Denmark stems from spicy food challenges on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram, which have led to serious injuries and even deaths.
One participant in such a challenge expressed significant apprehension about the risks involved, stating during a challenge that every bite was nerve-wracking and hoping it wouldn’t be lethal.
Danish officials caution that the intense heat from the chili sauce in these noodles could pose serious health risks, especially to children and the elderly. Symptoms could include burning and discomfort, nausea, vomiting and high blood pressure, according to the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration.
In response to the recall, noodle manufacturer Samyang acknowledged the action, explaining that the decision was based on the spice level rather than a quality defect. The company noted that this is the first global recall for these products and plans to review local regulations further.

BUT – THESE SPICY INSTANT NOODLES AREN’T SITTING WELL WITH HEALTH OFFICIALS OVERSEAS.
THIS WEEK – DENMARK ISSUED A RECALL OVER THESE PRODUCTS.
THE MOVE IS BECAUSE OF THE EXTREMELY HIGH SPICE LEVELS, WHICH THE GOVERNMENT SAYS COULD LEAD TO ‘ACUTE POISONING.’ DANISH FOOD REGULATORS ARE NOW URGING CUSTOMERS TO RETURN THE PRODUCT OR THROW IT OUT.
SOME OF WHAT’S DRIVING THIS DANISH BACKLASH – STEMS FROM SOCIAL MEDIA.
SEVERAL SPICY CHALLENGES ON PLATFORMS LIKE TIKTOK AND INSTAGRAM HAVE LED TO SERIOUS INJURY AND EVEN DEATH.

DANISH OFFICIALS WARN THE INTENSE HEAT FROM THE CHILI SAUCE IN THESE NOODLES COULD POSE SERIOUS HEALTH RISKS, ESPECIALLY TO CHILDREN AND THE ELDERLY, SAYING:
“Possible symptoms include burning and discomfort, nausea, vomiting and high blood pressure.”
THE NOODLE MANUFACTURER — SAMYANG — RESPONDED BY ACKNOWLEDGING THE RECALL, CLARIFYING THAT THE DECISION WAS MADE DUE TO THE SPICE LEVEL RATHER THAN A QUALITY DEFECT.
THE COMPANY EMPHASIZED THAT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME A RECALL FOR THESE PRODUCTS HAS BEEN ISSUED GLOBALLY AND PLANS TO REVIEW LOCAL REGULATIONS FURTHER.
