The Delaware State Police Department will be paying a man $50,000 after tearing up the sign he was holding on the side of the road. The sign read “Radar Ahead,” warning drivers of an upcoming speed trap.
Police let 54-year-old Jonathan Guessford go, but the man flipped them off after he stepped away, leading officers to cite him for “improper hand signaling.”
Dash cam video caught audio from the officers, discussing how they knew the charge would not stick.
The charges were dropped and Guessford sued, claiming the police prevented him from engaging in peaceful protest. The officers settled the lawsuit, agreeing to give Guessford $50,000.
