SIMONE DEL ROSARIO: 2022 HAS TURNED OUT TO BE ONE OF THE BEST YEARS FOR JOB GROWTH IN MODERN U-S HISTORY.
DECEMBER’S JOBS REPORT OUT TODAY – SHOWS ANOTHER MONTH OF JOB GROWTH BEATING EXPECTATIONS.
ECONOMISTS EXPECTED MORE A SLOWDOWN THAN WHAT WE HAVE IN FRONT OF US, THEY ESTIMATED AROUND 200-THOUSAND WOULD BE ADDED VERSUS THE 223-THOUSAND JOBS ACTUALLY ADDED, ACCORDING TO THE BUREAU OF LABOR STATISTICS.
NOW THAT IS THE SLOWEST JOB GROWTH OF THE YEAR, THE PREVIOUS LOW WAS NOVEMBER’S 256-THOUSAND JOBS ADDED.
THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DROPPED AGAIN IN DECEMBER TO 3.5%, DOWN FROM NOVEMBER’S REVISED 3.6%.
3.5% UNEMPLOYMENT MATCHES A 50-YEAR LOW, CONFIRMING THE ONGOING TIGHTNESS OF THE LABOR MARKET.
FOR ALL OF 2022, EMPLOYMENT ROSE BY 4.5 MILLION JOBS, AN AVERAGE MONTHLY GAIN OF 375-THOUSAND. THAT ANNUAL DATA IS ONLY TOPPED BY 2021’S PANDEMIC REBOUND.
AFTER A STRONGER THAN EXPECTED JOBS AND UNEMPLOYMENT REPORT, THE FEDERAL RESERVE WILL BE LASER FOCUSED ON NEXT WEEK’S INFLATION NUMBERS. THEY’VE CITED THE TIGHT LABOR MARKET AS A BIT OF A HINDRANCE IN BRINGING DOWN INFLATION.
I’M SIMONE DEL ROSARIO IN NEW YORK IT’S JUST BUSINESS.
