Climate activist Greta Thunberg was fined by a Swedish court on Monday, July 24. The 20-year-old was fined the equivalent of $240 for disobeying police during a protest at an oil facility in June.

Thunberg admitted to the facts but denied guilt, saying the world can’t be saved “by playing by the rules.”

In June, Thunberg and several other youth activists were charged after they blocked road access to an oil terminal in Malmo, Sweden, and refused a police order to disperse.

A spokesperson for Reclaim The Future, an environmental group who is fighting against the fossil fuel industry, said activists have to be “exactly where the harm is being done.”

Following the sentencing, Thunberg said she would “definitely not” back down. She then returned to the oil terminal to stage another roadblock where she was carried away by police.
