Full story

New data suggests that daily illegal border crossings are dropping. Fox News reported Monday that Border Patrol recorded 582 illegal crossings of the U.S.-Mexico border on Sunday. It’s the lowest number the agency has recorded in years.

By the end of President Joe Biden’s term, numbers dropped well below the peak of roughly 11,000 daily crossings in late 2023. Border Patrol recorded between 1,200 and 1,400 illegal crossings each day, and the monthly numbers for November and December hovered around four-year lows.

However, early in President Donald Trump’s term, the numbers dropped further, with fewer than 800 daily illegal crossings on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The trend exists across the border. None of the nine sectors where Border Patrol splits the nearly 2,000-mile border recorded more than 200 illegal crossings on Sunday.

The drop comes from a mix of factors. President Trump has signaled his plans to strictly enforce laws against illegal immigration. His termination of the CBP One app has also limited the number of people released after crossing the border.

Border encounters have historically dropped between December and January for each of the last three years before picking up heading into spring.
