Recent polling from Gallup has indicated inflation and the economy are major concerns for many Americans. During his State of the Union address, President Biden described plans to combat America’s rising inflation.
“Too many families are struggling to keep up with their bills. Inflation is robbing them of gains they thought otherwise they would be able to feel,” Biden said. “I get it. That’s why my top priority is getting prices under control.”
He then stressed that American manufacturing is the way to combat the issue.
“There’s something happening in America,” Biden said. “Just look around, and you’ll see an amazing story — the rebirth of pride that comes from stamping products ‘Made in America,’ the revitalization of American manufacturing.”
Republicans argue American manufacturing won’t curb inflation.
“They were warned that spending trillions would lead to soaring inflation. They were told their anti-energy policies would send gas prices to new heights,” Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds said in the Republican Response to the State of the Union. “But they plowed ahead anyway, raising the price at the pump by 50% and pushing inflation to a 40-year high.”
Democrats questioned Biden’s argument on the issue.
“Wonder if he connected convincingly on inflation? Felt like a driveby,” tweeted former Obama Advisor David Axelrod.
