Biden officials fail to define ‘woman’, ‘assault weapon’: Media Miss

Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona declined to define a “woman” while testifying before the House Appropriations Committee Tuesday, April 18. Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA) repeatedly asked Cardona for a response.

“I think that’s almost secondary to the important role that I have as secretary of education,” Cardona said.

The hearing took place amid controversy over proposed changes to Title IX rules, which were established to provide protections for women.

Similarly, Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Steve Dettelbach was unable to define the term “assault weapon” during a House Appropriations subcommittee hearing on Tuesday. Rep. Jake Ellzey (R-TX) had asked him to do so in 15 seconds.

“I, unlike you, am not a firearms expert to the same extent as you may be, but we have people at ATF who can talk about velocity of firearms, what damage different kinds of firearms can cause, so that whatever determination you chose to make can be an informed one,” Dettelbach said.

MAHMOUD BENNETT: ONE OF THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS OF ANY JOB IS BEING FAMILIAR WITH THE TERMS ASSOCIATED WITH SAID JOB.

THIS APPEARS TO BE SOMETHING THAT SOME MEMBERS OF THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION HAVE STRUGGLED WITH AS OF LATE.

WE START WITH EDUCATION SECRETARY MIGUEL CARDONA — WHO TESTIFIED  ON THE HILLS THIS WEEK IN DEFENSE OF PROPOSED CHANGES TO TITLE NINE RULES DESIGNED TO PROVIDE PROTECTIONS FOR WOMEN.

HE WAS GRILLED BY GEORGIA REPRESENTATIVE ANDREW CLYDE — AND FAILED TO PROVIDE A DEFINITION OF WHAT A WOMAN IS.

REP. ANDREW CLYDE: “CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME OR CAN YOU PLEASE DEFINE FOR ME, WHAT IS A WOMAN?”

MIGUEL CARDONA: “OUR FOCUS AT THE DEPARTMENT IS TO PROVIDE EQUAL ACCESS TO STUDENTS, INCLUDING STUDENTS WHO ARE LGBTQ, ACCESS FREE FROM DISCRIMINATION.”

CLYDE: “SO WHAT’S THE DEFINITION OF A WOMAN? YOU HAVEN’T GIVEN ME THAT, YOU HAVEN’T ANSWERED MY QUESTION.”

CARDONA: “WELL I THINK THAT’S ALMOST SECONDARY TO THE IMPORTANT ROLE I HAVE AS SECRETARY OF EDUCATION TO MAKE SURE…”

CLYDE: “MY QUESTION ISN’T SECONDARY, MY QUESTION IS VERY SIMPLE, WHAT DOES THE HHS SAY THE DEFINITION OF A WOMAN IS?”

CARDONA: “I LEAD THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND MY JOB IS TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL STUDENTS HAVE ACCESS.”

BENNETT: THEN THERE’S A-T-F DIRECTOR STEVE DETTELBACH.

TESTIFYING IN FRONT OF A HOUSE APPROPRIATIONS SUBCOMMITTEE THIS WEEK — DETTELBACH WAS SIMILARLY UNABLE TO DEFINE THE TERM “ASSAULT WEAPON DESPITE HIS AND THE PRESIDENT’S SUPPORT FOR AN ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN.{BIDEN ADMIN TERMS SOT}

REP. JAKE ELLZEY: “COULD YOU, IN 15 SECONDS, WOULD YOU DEFINE WHAT AN ASSAULT WEAPON IS?”}

STEVE DETTELBACH: ” I, UNLIKE YOU, AM NOT A FIREARMS EXPERT TO THE SAME EXTENT AS YOU MAY BE, BUT WE HAVE PEOPLE AT ATF WHO CAN TALK ABOUT VELOCITY OF FIREARMS, WHAT DAMAGE DIFFERENT KINDS OF FIREARMS CAN CAUSE, SO THAT WHATEVER DETERMINATION YOU CHOSE TO MAKE CAN BE AN INFORMED ONE.”

BENNETT: BOTH OF THESE STORIES ARE CONSIDERED A MEDIA MISS, AS THEY HAVE BEEN UNDERREPORTED BY LEFT-LEANING OUTLETS. AT STRAIGHT ARROW NEWS, WE WORK TO BRING YOU STORIES FROM ACROSS THE POLITICAL SPECTRUM, INCLUDING THOSE THAT GET MISSED BY REPORTERS ON THE RIGHT AND THE LEFT.
